A Decade With Jason Curlee Part 2

I’m continuing my journey through the decade. In part 1 I covered the first half 2000-2004.  Let’s pick up the journey in 2005.

2005 – The beginning of the year saw us still at Faith Family Church working in their private school Faith Academy.  My wife was the secretary/admin assistant/coach and I was the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director.  God was stirring in me to continue to pray over Corpus.  That summer we met with several of our friends that lived in the area and shared with them a dream about coming to Corpus to begin a church.  Nothing really manifested out of it and I thought maybe that was not the direction God was taking us.  It was in the last month of the year that I saw an ad for a church needing a student pastor in Corpus.  Thinking maybe that was the reason I applied.

2006 – After many meeting we accepted the role of student pastors of a church in Corpus.  I actually moved down in April of that year while the rest of the family finished out the school year.  I went right to work giving the student ministry an over haul and we saw growth every month through 2006.  We infused the student ministry with a lot of passion, creativity and hard work and it paid off.  This was also the year I began blogging.  Here is my first post.

2007 – This unfortunately was what felt like the worst year of my life.  After seeing our youth ministry triple in growth from the start we also realized that being at this church was not a right fit as we were very uncomfortable with much that was going on in the leadership of the church.  We resigned along with several others on staff with no job in sight and with no plans of moving.  Believing this might be the opportunity to plant a church, we, along with two other couples, launched our own church.  It was actually unbelievable that with no backing we launched and began to see growth immediately.  I also eventually found a job as a teacher in a charter high school who’s mission was to service students who have been kicked out of the local high schools and had no other options.  After about 3 months of co-pastoring the church…our partner got together with our other board member and decided that he wanted to be the senior pastor and took over the church.  We were devastated after feeling let down majorly by two churches within 6 months.  It was also the year that I sent an email not knowing it would be a catalyst to what would happen in 2008. After this we decided to take  a break from it all and began attending Bay Area Fellowship where I had sent an email some months earlier to John Atkinson.  Not having our passion deterred I began putting together a launch team in December of that year to begin another church plant.

2008 – This year began with our launch team continuing to grow and with two huge announcements. The first was me being offered the position of Principal of a charter school.  The second was that our church plant was going to become a campus for Bay Area Fellowship in the 5 Points area of Corpus. In May of ’08 we signed the lease and began working on the campus.  In July, we launched baf | 5 points and saw God do some crazy stuff through our campus that year. Oh and we did it all while I was working a full time job as principal.  So much credit goes to my wife and kids who have done so much to make this a reality.  In December, I was offered the opportunity to be a full time campus pastor and accepted.

2009 – WOW…what an awesome year…our campus is thriving and it has been so amazing to see where we are since 2007.  I so believe the journey God led us down prepared us for where we are…and the I’m always pushing myself to be prepared for what God has next.  Our family is doing great as well…our oldest daughter is a junior, middle daughter is in 8th and our youngest daughter is in 3rd grade.  What’s neat about our campus is that we have seen 267 people pray to begin a relationship with Christ in the first 17 months.  I have made some great friends and am part of a great team that is changing the world.

2010 and beyond??? – I want to stay my course and keep preparing for all God has for us.
